“Freemasonry from the 1st to the 33rd and last Degree" is an annotated translation of an 1875 manuscript written in French because the Scottish Rite originated during the Stuart dynasty in the UK (1603 to 1714). After Cromwell established a Republic, the Stuarts, escaped to France to seek the protection of King Louis XIV. Many Stuarts were Freemasons and founded Freemasonry in France. In 1801, this fraternal institution settled in America. It eventually attracted some of our most famous historic figures such as Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Truman, John Glenn et Buzz Aldrin to name only a few. This translation is an attempt to shed some light on the Scottish Rite despite its self-imposed secrecy. Why an attempt, because Manuscripts like these are kept at the Scottish Rite Masonic Museum in Lexington and have three strikes against their publication: They are well-preserved in the dark, furthermore in a vault and are written in French.
